Greetings from the team at Hope Community Clinic and from Mission Rwentobo trustees.  The last two months have seen increasing footfall at the clinic, especially in antenatal care, thanks to the generous donations which support the maternity care fund.  At the end of June, the Clinic team appreciated a visit from Dr Ian Spillman, the previous medical superintendent at Kisiizi Hospital,  who was over from the UK.

Dr Spillman’s report of his visit included the following comments, “I was very pleased to see the clinic all neat, tidy, well presented and efficient looking. The staff were smart and welcoming and there seems to be a good team spirit. The lab has gone up a gear with the CBC machine and the labour room has some good equipment.” This excellent feedback is all thanks to your prayers and financial support.

The clinic team continue to be involved in health talks to the surrounding community.  In June midwives Brenda and Damary visited the newly opened St Clare catholic primary school to give a talk on personal hygiene and dental care.  We were pleased to hear that the school management have agreed to invest in the Kisiizi Hospital Health Co-operative so that the children are insured to attend the clinic for health care as necessary.

Thanks to the subsidised maternity care, attendance for antenatal checks is increasing and here we see midwife Shafrah doing an ultrasound scan during a mother’s first visit. More births are expected in August.  Please pray for safe deliveries.

Nurse Sharon was sponsored by Mission Rwentobo to upgrade to Registered General Nurse and we are pleased to say that she collected her registration certificate from the Uganda Nurses and Midwives council in June.  Sharon sends her grateful thanks for the financial support given to her.

An afternoon tea and craft sale was held on 4th July at the home of Brionnie and Mick Haselden  to raise funds for the three teens who are travelling to Uganda in Mid October to support the clinic and  local schools. A wonderful £1,000 was raised towards their costs. Unfortunately, a music event which had also been planned for late June had to be cancelled at short notice due to severe illness in the family of the musicians. We are hoping to schedule a similar fund raising event in September.

It is less than three months until a group of 10 to 12 of us fly to Uganda to support and encourage the clinic team.  We will also be visiting Kisiizi Hospital and the three teenagers will be visiting schools and taking part in lessons and games with the children.  We will be taking some aid bags with us and donations of good quality baby and children’s clothes and shoes would be appreciated, particularly croc type sandals. Ladies light weight scarves and men’s ties are also appreciated. Do get in touch if you have anything to donate.
