Summer update from Mission Rwentobo

Progress towards full maternity services

Greetings to you all from Mission Rwentobo trustees and the teams at Hope Community Clinic and Kisiizi Hospital.  Here is our summer update.  We are pleased to inform you that things are progressing well with preparation to provide for full maternity care, including the safe delivery of babies, at Hope Community Clinic in Uganda. Thanks to the generous funds donated towards the extended maternity services at the clinic, all the external infrastructure is now in place. The photos below show the work in progress, the exterior and interior of the infected waste storage shed, the incinerator and all infrastructure including the placenta pit and ash pit, safely fenced off.  If you look at the photo of the construction work, you can see the school to the left and the roof of the clinic to the right. A new path has been created to connect the clinic to the external infrastructure.

The next challenge is to furnish and equip the interior of the clinic to provide a delivery room and maternity ward.  The costs for this have escalated beyond original estimates so we are having to prioritise things that are absolutely necessary for services to begin, over what is desirable. For example, the linens etc will continue to be washed by hand until the cost of a laundry can be covered as this has been estimated at 8m Ugandan shillings - approx £1660.  If you are able to help in even a small  with with extra costs, please...Donate Here: https://checkout.justgiving.com/c/3461837

  • The construction team led by Engineer Selezio who have completed the infrastructure safely and  on time.
  • The safe delivery of a baby boy to midwife Brenda at the end of June.  She has named the baby Munyanbabazi Redeemer. Mum and baby are thriving and Brenda is looking forward to returning to work in October.

Please pray for:

  • The teams at both Kisiizi Hospital and the clinic who are working hard to serve the rural poor with good health care, despite many challenges.
  • For guidance for Mission  Rwentobo trustees as we seek to allocate generous funds for maternity services according to priorities and available funds.
  • For the procurement team at Kisiizi who will soon be placing orders for extensive maternity equipment, pending confirmation of requirements.
  • For good progress to enable full maternity services to launch in October.
